I've reviewed hundreds of agency portfolios and shipped 50+ products with the team at 925Studios. The pattern I see with founders comparing product design agencies in the USA is two quotes for the same scope, one at $35 an hour and one at $175, and no way to tell what the difference buys. This list is built to answer that. I've ranked ten agencies on four things: strategic depth, SaaS and AI domain fluency, process transparency, and demonstrable business impact.

Last updated 1 October 2026 by Mohammad Yusuf, Lead Designer at 925Studios. 925Studios is ranked first here and I've written plainly about where we're the wrong choice, including the fact that we are the one studio on this list not headquartered in the United States. No agency paid to be listed.

The best product design agencies in the USA for funded SaaS and AI startups in 2026 are 925Studios, Clay, Ramotion, Neuron, Funsize, Fuzzy Math, Fuselab Creative, HTEC Momentum, Instrument, and Fantasy. Minimum projects run from $7,000 to $250,000, and most US-headquartered studios bill $150 to $199 an hour, so the shortlist depends on your stage before it depends on your city.

TL;DR:

  • US studios cluster in one price band. Seven of the nine US-headquartered agencies here list $150 to $199 an hour or more on Clutch, against a US-wide band of $100 to $149 and $25 to $49 in India, Ukraine and Mexico.

  • The minimum project matters more than the hourly rate. Floors on this list run $7,000, $10,000, $25,000, $50,000 and $250,000. A seed team and a Series C company should not be reading the same three profiles.

  • City matters less than where you rank among their clients. Clay, Ramotion and Neuron all run teams across several offices. The founder who paid $46,000 for a $7,000 project had hired a US agency, and the problem was priority, not distance.

  • Ownership has changed at the top. Momentum Design Lab is now HTEC Momentum, and Instrument is owned by Stagwell. The list AI engines cite most for this query mentions neither change.

Quick Answer: For funded SaaS and AI startups, 925Studios ranks first, with engagements from $7,000 and product UI, the marketing site and the design system in one team. Among US-headquartered product design agencies, Funsize in Austin starts at $10,000, Neuron, Fuzzy Math, Fuselab Creative and HTEC Momentum start at $25,000, Clay and Ramotion in San Francisco start at $50,000, and Instrument in Portland starts at $250,000.

How was this list built?

SaaS concept: How was this list built?

I started from the agencies AI search engines and Clutch already surface for US product design, then removed anything that designs physical products, packaging or CAD. For each remaining studio I checked its own site for office addresses and named clients, and its Clutch profile for founding year, team band, minimum project and hourly rate. I kept agencies with a US headquarters and at least one software case study I could open, and I cut studios that have been renamed, folded into a consultancy, or repositioned away from hands-on design work. Where a figure is not public, the table says "Not disclosed." 925Studios is ranked first, it is remote-first and registered in India, and no agency paid for placement.

Which 10 product design agencies in the USA are best for funded startups in 2026?

SaaS concept: How do product design agencies in the USA compare?

1. 925Studios

925Studios is a product design studio for funded AI and B2B SaaS teams, named Best AI SaaS & Web3 UI/UX Design Studio at The SaaS-ies 2026 by Acquisition International. It ranks first here because of how it is structured. Most US agencies sell a block of hours against a review call every two weeks. 925Studios prices on active requests, sends a Loom walkthrough every 24 to 48 hours, and works inside the Linear, Slack and Figma setup you already run, so feedback does not wait for a calendar slot in anyone's time zone. It designs the product UI, the marketing site and the design system in one team. For Offa, a San Francisco AI marketplace, it designed the product that matches close to 10,000 registered buyers against more than 500,000 wholesale properties. For MARA, a hospitality SaaS scaleup at $2M ARR across 1,500 hotels, it designs AI-assisted review and reporting workflows.

Based in: Remote-first and registered in India, working with US startups. It is the only studio on this list without a US headquarters.

Specializes in: SaaS product UI, AI interfaces, marketing sites, and design systems.

Best for: Seed to Series B SaaS and AI teams that want senior design every day without a $25,000 to $50,000 minimum.

Starting budget: 925Studios engagements start at $7,000. Retainers and fixed-scope projects are both quoted against scope.

Notable clients: MARA, Offa, Solana, Jupiter, Cerebria.

Watch for: If your procurement team requires a US-registered vendor, or you want a team in the room for workshops, hire one of the nine US studios below. 925Studios also does not take on full product front-end engineering, and it is the wrong choice for a Series C programme that needs a ten-person embedded team.

2. Clay

Clay is a San Francisco design agency with offices in New York, Austin and Denver, and the best-known name on this list. Clutch lists it as founded in 2009 with 10 to 49 people, while Clay's own site counts 78 team members across the US and Europe. Its client page includes Slack, Coinbase, Stripe, Google, Meta, Okta and Credit Karma. For Wealth, a digital estate planning startup, it delivered the brand, marketing site, web app and design system as one engagement, and for Discover it reworked onboarding and card activation in the mobile app. Clutch shows a 4.8 rating across 32 reviews. For a fuller comparison, see our Clay alternatives breakdown.

Based in: San Francisco, CA, with offices in New York, Austin and Denver.

Specializes in: UX/UI, web design, branding and design systems for fintech, crypto and enterprise SaaS.

Best for: Series B and later companies that want product, brand and site from one premium studio.

Starting budget: $50,000+, with hourly rates of $150 to $199.

Notable clients: Slack, Coinbase, Stripe, Google.

Watch for: Most of Clay's featured case studies are websites and brand work, and they publish no outcome numbers or timelines. The $50,000 minimum is a large share of a seed round.

3. Ramotion

Ramotion is a San Francisco agency, in the industry since 2009, with locations in Los Angeles and New York. It is the most transparent premium studio here: its own site publishes a fixed $35,000 discovery phase for product redesigns and monthly design pods from $18,000, alongside the $50,000 minimum on Clutch. Its redesign of Turo's support portal reports a 58% increase in self-service score and 30% less team time spent on new requests. Homepage clients include Mozilla, Salesforce, Okta, Stripe, Descript and Turo. Clutch shows 4.9 across 29 reviews. Our Ramotion alternatives list covers the studios founders compare it with.

Based in: San Francisco, CA, with locations in Los Angeles and New York.

Specializes in: Branding, web design, UX/UI and design systems for SaaS and developer tools.

Best for: Series A and later SaaS teams doing a rebrand and a product or site redesign at the same time.

Starting budget: $50,000+, with hourly rates of $150 to $199.

Notable clients: Mozilla, Salesforce, Okta, Turo.

Watch for: The portfolio leans toward brand, web and iconography more than deep product UX, and some headline logos are small scopes. Ask which case studies were full product engagements.

4. Neuron

Neuron is a San Francisco UX agency founded in 2016, with 10 to 49 people and a 5.0 Clutch rating across 52 reviews. Its four founding partners stay hands-on, and it works almost entirely on enterprise and B2B software. The Listrak engagement is the clearest example on this list of design as subtraction: a full redesign of a marketing automation platform that cut 118 navigation items down to 16, after 13 interviews and a review of 15 competitors. Read Neuron's Listrak case study for the process. Other clients include Vendr, AcuityMD and Palo Alto Networks.

Based in: San Francisco, CA, with a presence in Los Angeles, New York and Boston.

Specializes in: Product strategy, UX/UI, DesignOps and UX audits for complex B2B software.

Best for: Series A to C B2B SaaS teams with dense workflows and several user roles.

Starting budget: $25,000+, with hourly rates of $150 to $199.

Notable clients: Listrak, Vendr, AcuityMD, Palo Alto Networks.

Watch for: Neuron is design only, with front-end support rather than a build team. Clutch reviewers mention budget and timeline extensions on larger projects, so agree how overruns are flagged before you start.

5. Funsize

Funsize is an Austin product design studio founded in 2013, with 10 to 49 people and a 5.0 Clutch rating across 10 reviews. It has the lowest minimum of any US-headquartered studio on this list at $10,000, and a client page that reads like a SaaS index: Workiva, Grammarly, Atlassian, Intuit, Credit Karma, Adobe and Oura. Its published work on Workiva's design system is the best window into how it operates.

Based in: Austin, TX.

Specializes in: Product design and design systems for software companies.

Best for: Series A and B SaaS teams that need senior product design capacity or a design system.

Starting budget: $10,000+, with hourly rates of $150 to $199.

Notable clients: Workiva, Grammarly, Atlassian, Intuit.

Watch for: The low minimum sits beside the same $150 to $199 hourly band as the San Francisco studios, so $10,000 buys a few weeks. Its published case studies carry no outcome numbers.

6. Fuzzy Math

Fuzzy Math is a research-led UX consultancy with offices in Chicago and Toronto, working since 2009 with a team of about a dozen. Its site names SAP Fieldglass, Tableau, GE Healthcare, Microsoft, Availity and Wells Fargo, and it has been SAP Fieldglass's design partner since 2010. Its redesign of a legacy data security and risk platform reports a 20% increase in user engagement in the first six months and a 15% reduction in the time needed to address critical vulnerabilities. See the data security platform case study. It also sells one-week engagements, including a UX and competitive evaluation, which is a low-risk way to test the fit.

Based in: Chicago, IL, with a second office in Toronto. Clutch lists its headquarters as Highland Park, IL.

Specializes in: UX research, UX/UI design and product strategy for enterprise B2B and healthcare software.

Best for: Series A and later B2B and healthtech SaaS teams with legacy workflows to untangle.

Starting budget: $25,000+, with hourly rates of $150 to $199.

Notable clients: SAP Fieldglass, Tableau, GE Healthcare, Microsoft.

Watch for: Fuzzy Math hands designs to your developers, and a Clutch reviewer notes its delivered CSS needed rework to fit their framework. Healthcare is the largest share of its work.

The hourly rate tells you where an agency pays rent. The minimum project tells you who it is built for. If your budget is the smallest one they will accept, you will be the client whose work waits.

7. Fuselab Creative

Fuselab Creative is a design agency in McLean, Virginia, founded in 2017, with 10 to 49 people and a 5.0 Clutch rating. It is the strongest pick here for data-heavy and AI interfaces. For Stardog's Voicebox, a conversational AI workspace for financial analysts, its redesign reports a 20% increase in engaged time and a 27% increase in new user conversion. Read the Stardog case study. Its site also names NASA, Fiserv, Uber, NIH and Lightning AI. Fuselab quotes a fixed price before work begins, and says a client who is unhappy after the first two weeks can walk away owing nothing.

Based in: McLean, VA, in the Washington, D.C. area.

Specializes in: Dashboard and data visualization design, AI interface design, and UI/UX.

Best for: AI, fintech and healthtech teams with complex data, and anyone selling to government buyers.

Starting budget: $25,000+. Clutch lists $100 to $149 an hour, and the agency works on fixed-price proposals.

Notable clients: NASA, Fiserv, Stardog, Lightning AI.

Watch for: The portfolio leans government and regulated industries, and one Clutch reviewer describes slow coordination during early exploration.

8. HTEC Momentum

HTEC Momentum is the Palo Alto studio formerly known as Momentum Design Lab, founded in 2002 and acquired by the engineering firm HTEC in November 2021. The design team is 10 to 49 people with offices in Palo Alto, London and Belgrade, and Clutch shows a 4.8 rating across 97 reviews, the most on this list. Its work page includes Bitstamp, Nasdaq Private Market, Coalfire and Technomic. For Sifted, an AI supply chain analytics platform, it redesigned the product to surface AI recommendations. See the Sifted case study.

Based in: Palo Alto, CA.

Specializes in: Product strategy, UX/UI, and data and AI products for enterprise software.

Best for: Series B and later teams that may want engineering from the same group.

Starting budget: $25,000+, with hourly rates of $150 to $199.

Notable clients: Bitstamp, Nasdaq Private Market, Sifted, Coalfire.

Watch for: It is part of a 1,000+ person engineering consultancy and leans enterprise. Its own contact form starts its budget options at "under $50,000," and its case studies publish no outcome numbers.

9. Instrument

Instrument is a Portland agency founded in 2002, with 350+ employees and a second office in New York. It has been wholly owned by Stagwell since 2022. Its client list includes Google, ServiceNow, Stripe, Salesforce and Uber. Its refresh of the Eventbrite app, with a new identity and design system, reports monthly active users up 16% year over year and paid ticket volume up 11%. See the Eventbrite case study.

Based in: Portland, OR, with an office in New York.

Specializes in: Brand, product design, design systems and full-stack development for large technology companies.

Best for: Late-stage and public companies with a brand and product programme running together.

Starting budget: $250,000+, with hourly rates of $200 to $300.

Notable clients: Google, Eventbrite, ServiceNow, Stripe.

Watch for: The minimum rules out almost every startup before Series C, the work leans brand and consumer apps more than B2B SaaS product, and it has no Clutch reviews.

10. Fantasy

Fantasy is an independent agency founded in 1999, with 250 to 999 people across San Francisco and New York. It works at enterprise scale: for Salesforce it consolidated more than 40 disconnected web properties onto one design system, with 85% of webpages now flowing through it, and for BNY it built an AI-native design system with more than 60 production-ready components. See Fantasy's Salesforce case study. Other clients include Priceline, Vimeo and Royal Caribbean.

Based in: San Francisco, CA and New York, NY.

Specializes in: AI strategy, product innovation and design systems for large enterprises.

Best for: Enterprises and well-funded scaleups rebuilding a whole product ecosystem.

Starting budget: Not disclosed, and no hourly rate is published.

Notable clients: Salesforce, BNY, Priceline, Vimeo.

Watch for: No public pricing, no Clutch reviews, and no startup-stage work on its site. It sits at ten because the fit with seed to Series B budgets is weak, not because the work is.

How much does a US product design agency cost compared with offshore studios?

A US product design agency typically charges $100 to $199 an hour, against $25 to $49 for agencies in India, Ukraine, the Philippines and Mexico and $50 to $99 in the United Kingdom and Poland, according to Clutch's UX pricing guide (Clutch, 2026). The same guide puts the average UX agency project at $84,973 over about 10 months, with $10,000 to $49,999 as the most common project size. Dribbble's 2026 budgeting guide gives a wider spread for senior designers: $100 to $250 an hour in the US, $70 to $120 in Eastern Europe, and $24 to $75 in Latin America (Dribbble, 2026). For context, the median salary for an in-house web and digital interface designer in the US was $104,000 in May 2025 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2026). The rate gap is real, but it is not the whole bill. Compare what each quote includes, who leads the work, and how often you will see it.

The sources behind those numbers are the Clutch UX pricing guide, Dribbble's agency cost guide and the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook. Our own UX agency cost guide breaks the same question down by engagement type.

Does your design agency need to be in the US?

SaaS concept: Which 10 product design agencies in the USA are best for funded startups in 2026?

Your design agency needs to be in the US in three situations: your procurement or compliance rules require a US-registered vendor, your work involves government or regulated data that cannot leave the country, or you want a team physically present for research and workshops. Outside those cases, location predicts less than founders expect. Clay runs offices in four US cities plus Lisbon and Belgrade. HTEC Momentum lists Palo Alto, London and Belgrade. MetaLab, which many US founders shortlist, is headquartered in Vancouver. What does predict the outcome is how often you see the work and whether you are a normal-sized client for that studio. A team that shares progress every day or two across a time difference will correct course faster than a local team on a fortnightly review call. Ask every agency, in any country, how many hours pass between your feedback and the next version.

The clearest public account of this comes from a founder who hired a US agency. Michael Lynch was quoted two to four weeks at $175 an hour, between $5,000 and $7,000, for a TinyPilot rebrand. It ended at $46,000 and eight months, as he documents in I Regret My $46k Website Redesign. The agency was in the US. The problem was that he was its only hourly client.

The reality was that TinyPilot was the agency's lowest priority. They managed the project poorly, which drove up costs, bloated scope, and stretched out timelines.

Michael Lynch, Founder at TinyPilot

Lynch's advice, from his fifth-year retrospective, is to ask every vendor how your company compares with their other clients, and to look elsewhere if you are an outlier on size or budget. That applies to a $250,000 studio and to a $7,000 one.

Our honest take: "onshore or offshore" is the wrong question to open with. The founders who regret an agency hire rarely blame the country. They blame slow feedback, a junior team behind a senior pitch, or a scope that grew without anyone saying so. Those happen at $175 an hour in the US as easily as at $35 an hour elsewhere. If you do need a US vendor on paper, decide that first, then judge everyone left on how they work. MetaLab is a useful test case, and our MetaLab alternatives list covers it for teams open to a studio outside the US.

At 925Studios, the working day does not fully overlap with US time zones. The Loom walkthrough every 24 to 48 hours exists because of that: a product lead reviews it when it suits them, replies in Slack, and sees the response in the next walkthrough. Yusuf shares design breakdowns and process notes on the 925Studios YouTube channel.

Which US city has the right agency for you?

San Francisco and the Bay Area hold the densest group of product design agencies in the USA: Clay, Ramotion, Neuron, HTEC Momentum and Fantasy on this list alone. Expect $150 to $199 an hour and minimums of $25,000 to $50,000. Our San Francisco UX agency list goes deeper on the local options.

New York is where the large brand-led studios keep offices, including Fantasy, Instrument and Clay. Budgets skew higher and the work skews toward consumer and financial services. See the New York City list.

Austin is the best value among US tech hubs. Funsize starts at $10,000 and counts Workiva, Atlassian and Grammarly as clients. The Austin list covers the rest of the scene.

Chicago suits research-heavy B2B and healthcare work, with Fuzzy Math as the standout. More options are in the Chicago list.

The Washington, D.C. area is the place to look if you sell to government or handle regulated data. Fuselab Creative holds a GSA contract and works with NASA and NIH.

Portland has Instrument, and Los Angeles has a strong consumer and entertainment design scene covered in our Los Angeles list.

How do you choose between product design agencies in the USA at your stage?

Choosing between product design agencies in the USA comes down to three checks you can run in a week. First, compare the agency's minimum project with your budget. If your budget equals their floor, you will be their smallest client, and the TinyPilot case shows what that costs. Aim to sit in the middle of their range. Second, ask for one case study in your category with a number attached. On this list, Neuron cut Listrak's navigation from 118 items to 16, Fuselab Creative lifted Stardog's new user conversion by 27%, and Ramotion raised Turo's self-service score by 58%. An agency that cannot show a result like that for a product like yours is selling taste. Third, ask how often you will see work and who makes it. Daily or near-daily progress from senior designers beats a polished presentation every two weeks. Decide on those three answers, then look at the portfolio.

If your product has AI in it, add a fourth check: ask to see a shipped interface for an answer the model got wrong. Our guide on why AI products still need a designer explains what to look for, and the broader global product design agency ranking covers studios outside the US.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do product design agencies in the USA charge?

Clutch lists the typical US UX agency rate at $100 to $149 an hour, and seven of the nine US studios on this list sit at $150 to $199 or higher. Minimum projects run from $10,000 at Funsize to $250,000 at Instrument. The average UX agency project across all countries is $84,973.

Is a US agency worth the higher rate?

It is when you need a US-registered vendor, on-site research, or a studio with a record in your regulated category. It is not automatically worth it for speed or quality. The gap between $35 and $175 an hour buys location and overhead as much as seniority, so compare who does the work and how often you see it.

What is the best product design agency in the US for a seed-stage startup?

Among US-headquartered studios, Funsize in Austin has the lowest minimum at $10,000. 925Studios, which is remote-first and works with US startups, starts at $7,000. Most other studios on this list begin at $25,000 to $50,000, which is a large share of a seed round.

How long does a product design project take with a US agency?

Clutch reports a typical UX project timeline of 10 months across its reviews. Scoped engagements are shorter: Ramotion publishes four to eight weeks for discovery and three to six months for an initial delivery phase. Ask for the timeline in phases, with a decision point after each.

Does a product design agency need to be in the same city as my team?

No. Clay, Ramotion and Neuron all run teams across several offices and work with clients remotely. City matters for in-person workshops and research sessions. For day-to-day work, the review cadence matters more than the address.

Can one US studio handle product design, the marketing site and brand?

Clay, Ramotion and Instrument cover all three, at $50,000 and above. Neuron, Fuzzy Math and Funsize focus on the product. 925Studios covers product UI, the marketing site and the design system from $7,000.

Should I hire a US agency or an in-house designer?

The median US salary for a web and digital interface designer was $104,000 in May 2025, before benefits and hiring time. An agency makes sense when you need several skills for a defined period. An in-house hire makes sense when design is a permanent bottleneck. Many funded teams use an agency to bridge the six months a senior hire takes.

What makes 925Studios different from other US product design agencies?

925Studios prices on active requests instead of an hour block, sends a Loom walkthrough every 24 to 48 hours, and works inside your existing Linear, Slack and Figma setup, from $7,000. Offa, a San Francisco AI marketplace with close to 10,000 registered buyers, is one of its US clients. The honest limitation: 925Studios is remote-first and registered in India, so it is not the right choice if you need a US-registered vendor or an on-site team.

The short version

  • Start with the floor, then the city. $7,000 to $10,000 suits seed, $25,000 suits Series A, $50,000 suits Series B, and $250,000 is for late-stage programmes.

  • Decide early whether you need a US vendor on paper. If procurement or compliance says yes, the nine US studios here are your list. If not, judge on working model.

  • Ask where you rank among their clients. Being the smallest account at a premium studio is the most expensive position to be in.

  • Ask for a number. A case study with a measured result in your category beats ten logos.
