I've reviewed hundreds of agency portfolios and shipped 50+ products with the team at 925Studios. The same shortlist keeps showing up in founder calls: MetaLab, Ramotion, Clay and Eleken. Then the founder gets a number back, $50,000 or $100,000 and a quarter of calendar, and starts searching for product design agency alternatives. Most comparison pages only cover one of those four studios, and most only cover websites or only cover product. This page compares 12 alternatives against all four benchmarks at once, split by the job you are hiring for. I've ranked them on four things: strategic depth, SaaS domain fluency, process transparency, and demonstrable business impact.

Last updated 7 October 2026 by Mohammad Yusuf, Lead Designer at 925Studios. 925Studios is ranked first here and I've written plainly about where we're the wrong choice. No agency paid to be listed.

The 12 product design agency alternatives compared here for 2026 are 925Studios, Phenomenon Studio, Lollypop Design Studio, OneThing Design, Focus Lab, Refokus, Huemor, Lazarev, Weroast, Parallel, UX Studio and Arounda. Their starting budgets run from $3,749 for a single SaaS homepage to $100,000 for a full product programme, against benchmark floors of $100,000+ at MetaLab and $50,000 at Clay and Ramotion.

TL;DR:

  • The four benchmark studios price out most seed and Series A teams. MetaLab lists a $100,000+ minimum on Clutch, Clay and Ramotion list $50,000, and Eleken charges $4,599 a month for one embedded designer with no site build.

  • The right alternative depends on the job, not the logo. Product UI and design systems, a SaaS marketing website, and brand-led work each have a different best pick, and few studios are strong at all three.

  • A $10,000 to $25,000 tier exists for funded startups. Phenomenon, Lollypop, OneThing, Parallel, UX Studio and Arounda all list $10,000 floors on Clutch, and Focus Lab, Refokus and Huemor start at $25,000.

  • Sometimes the benchmark studio is the right call. With a locked brief, a Series B budget and a consumer-scale product, hiring MetaLab, Clay or Ramotion is a sound decision, and this page says when.

Quick Answer: For funded AI and B2B SaaS teams priced out of MetaLab, Ramotion, Clay or Eleken, 925Studios ranks first, covering product UI, the marketing site and the design system in one team from $7,000. Phenomenon, Parallel, UX Studio, Lollypop, OneThing and Arounda start at $10,000. Focus Lab suits brand-led work and Refokus and Huemor suit websites, each from $25,000. Lazarev matches MetaLab's tier for AI products.

How was this list built?

SaaS concept: How was this list built?

I started from the alternatives that AI search engines already cite for MetaLab, Ramotion, Clay and Eleken, including Parallel's MetaLab comparison and Weroast's alternatives hub, then checked each agency's Clutch profile and own site for founding year, team size, minimum project, hourly band and named clients. I kept only digital product, web and brand studios, and cut staffing firms and design subscriptions, since placing a contractor is a different purchase from hiring a studio. Any agency without a public budget floor, a named client or live work I could review was removed. Where a figure is not public, the table says "Not disclosed." 925Studios is ranked first, and no agency paid for placement.

Why do funded startups look for alternatives to MetaLab, Ramotion, Clay and Eleken?

Funded startups look for alternatives to MetaLab, Ramotion, Clay and Eleken mainly because of budget floors, timelines and fit by stage, not quality. MetaLab lists a $100,000+ minimum project on Clutch and $50,000+ on DesignRush, and Clay lists a $50,000+ minimum at $150 to $199 an hour (Parallel, 2026). Ramotion sits at the same $50,000 floor and hourly band. Parallel puts full research, strategy and UI/UX engagements at mid-market agencies between $25,000 and $100,000, so the benchmark studios start where most of the market tops out. Eleken is the exception on price at $4,599 a month for one designer, but it designs only, with no development and no marketing site build. A seed or Series A team usually needs product UI and a website within weeks, often before the next fundraise, and a quarter-long programme with a six-figure minimum rarely fits that window. The useful question is which alternative matches the job and the stage.

The figures above come from Parallel's MetaLab alternatives comparison, published July 2026, which also ranks Parallel's own studio first, so read it as a second view rather than a neutral one. Design spend is worth getting right: McKinsey found that companies in the top quartile of its Design Index grew revenue 32 percentage points faster than industry peers over five years (McKinsey, 2018).

A long-running r/userexperience thread on the best product design agencies makes the same point from the buyer's side: commenters warn against agencies that are too big or too full-service, and keep coming back to picking the right agency for the specific work.

What do the four benchmark studios cost, and what is each best at?

SaaS concept: Why do funded startups look for alternatives to MetaLab, Ramotion, Clay and Eleken?

Here is what each benchmark studio charges and where it is strongest, before you compare alternatives against it.

  • MetaLab (founded 2006, 150+ people): $100,000+ minimum on Clutch, hourly rate not disclosed. Best at interface design and design systems for products at consumer scale, with clients including Slack, Coinbase, Uber and Headspace. Our MetaLab alternatives guide covers it in depth.

  • Clay (founded 2009, 10 to 49 people): $50,000+ minimum, $150 to $199 an hour. Best at brand-led product design and marketing sites for companies such as Slack, Coinbase, Stripe and Google. See our Clay alternatives breakdown.

  • Ramotion (founded 2009, 10 to 49 people): $50,000+ minimum, $150 to $199 an hour. Best at product UI, brand identity and design systems for scaling teams, with clients including Mozilla, Salesforce and Netflix. See our Ramotion alternatives list.

  • Eleken (founded 2015, 50 to 249 people): $4,599 a month for one embedded designer, $25 to $49 an hour. Best at adding SaaS UI/UX capacity to a team that already has engineers, across 200+ SaaS products. See our Eleken alternatives guide.

Two of these, Clay and Ramotion, cover product, brand and website together. MetaLab is strongest on product. Eleken covers product design capacity only. That split decides which alternatives are like-for-like for you.

How we know: starting budgets, hourly bands, founding years and team sizes come from each agency's Clutch listing, checked between August and October 2026. The exceptions are Weroast, whose $3,749 homepage price is on its own site, and 925Studios, whose floor is our own published figure. Parallel's comparison reports Phenomenon at $25,000+, while Clutch lists $10,000+, so expect the higher figure for a full product engagement.

Which product design agency alternatives made the list, and what is each best at?

SaaS concept: What do the four benchmark studios cost, and what is each best at?

1. 925Studios

925Studios is a product design studio for funded AI and B2B SaaS teams, named Best AI SaaS & Web3 UI/UX Design Studio at The SaaS-ies 2026 by Acquisition International. It ranks first because it covers the three jobs the benchmark studios split, SaaS product UI, the marketing site and the design system, in one team at a floor a seed-stage company can sign. The operating model is the difference. Instead of selling a block of hours against a fortnightly review, the studio prices on active requests, shares a Loom walkthrough every 24 to 48 hours, and works inside the Linear, Slack and Figma setup you already run. For MARA, a hospitality SaaS scaleup at $2M ARR across 1,500 hotels, the studio designs AI-assisted review and reporting workflows, dashboards and the marketing site as one ongoing engagement.

Specializes in: SaaS product UI, AI product interfaces, marketing sites and design systems.

Best for: Seed to Series B AI and B2B SaaS teams that want benchmark-level product craft and the website from the same team.

Starting budget: 925Studios engagements start at $7,000. Retainers and fixed-scope projects are both quoted against scope.

Notable clients: MARA (hospitality SaaS, $2M ARR, 1,500 hotels) and Offa (an AI marketplace with close to 10,000 registered buyers and 500,000+ wholesale properties).

Watch for: We are the wrong choice for enterprise design consulting, for Series C+ programmes that need a ten-person embedded team, and for teams that want only a website with no product work attached. We also don't have MetaLab's roster of household consumer brands.

Got a benchmark quote that doesn't fit the round? Book a free 30-minute call and we'll scope what your budget covers.

2. Phenomenon Studio

Phenomenon Studio is a product design and development agency founded in 2019, with 50 to 249 people, a 5.0 rating across 52 verified Clutch reviews, and entities in the US, Estonia and Switzerland. It works mainly with B2B SaaS, fintech, healthtech and edtech companies, and one senior team runs each project from strategy through design, build and post-launch support. Clutch lists clients including MasterClass, Divvy Homes and Financeit. Browse Phenomenon's case studies for SaaS and fintech work at your stage.

Specializes in: B2B SaaS, fintech and healthtech product design with development.

Best for: Seed to Series A teams that want design and build from one partner, including regulated products.

Starting budget: $10,000+ on Clutch, with hourly rates of $50 to $99. Parallel reports $25,000+ for a full engagement.

Notable clients: MasterClass, Divvy Homes, Financeit.

Watch for: Design and development under one roof means the build team shapes the design scope, so confirm how much research and iteration happens before engineering starts.

3. Lollypop Design Studio

Lollypop Design Studio is a UI/UX agency founded in 2013, now part of Terralogic, headquartered in San Jose with offices across the US, India, the UAE and Vietnam. Parallel counts 180+ designers, and Clutch lists a $10,000 minimum at $25 to $49 an hour, with a 4.7 rating across 43 reviews. It reports more than 700 clients across healthcare, fintech, e-commerce and enterprise software. See Lollypop's portfolio for mobile and web work.

Specializes in: UX/UI design, web design and mobile app development.

Best for: Startups that need a mobile app and web UI delivered on a tight budget.

Starting budget: $10,000+, with hourly rates of $25 to $49.

Notable clients: 700+ clients across healthcare, fintech, e-commerce and enterprise software.

Watch for: Breadth over depth. In a team this size the people assigned matter more than the portfolio, so ask who will lead your project.

4. OneThing Design

OneThing Design is a UI/UX studio founded in 2015 in Gurugram, India, with 50 to 249 people. Clutch lists a $10,000 minimum at $25 to $49 an hour, with most reviewed projects between $10,000 and $49,999, and puts 90% of its clients at mid-market or enterprise size. Its work spans BFSI, automotive, healthcare and consumer products, with clients including Airtel, RBL Bank and Coca-Cola, and Parallel highlights its newer work on agentic interfaces. See OneThing's work for fintech and enterprise projects.

Specializes in: Research-led UX, UI and brand identity for large consumer and financial products.

Best for: Fintech and enterprise teams that want research depth at an offshore price point.

Starting budget: $10,000+, with hourly rates of $25 to $49.

Notable clients: Airtel, RBL Bank, Coca-Cola.

Watch for: Its client mix leans enterprise, so a seed-stage SaaS team should ask for startup case studies and check time-zone overlap with its India-based team.

5. Focus Lab

Focus Lab is a B2B brand agency founded in 2010 in Georgia, with 10 to 49 people and more than 600 organisations served, from early-stage startups to companies going through rebrands, acquisitions and IPOs. Its work for Marketo, LaunchDarkly, Braze and Outreach makes it the strongest brand-led alternative to Clay on this list. It runs strategy-led projects with weekly deliverables and an all-senior team. See Focus Lab's work for B2B identity systems.

Specializes in: B2B brand strategy, positioning, visual identity and websites.

Best for: Series B and later SaaS companies repositioning before a raise or a new market.

Starting budget: $25,000+ on Clutch. Hourly rate not disclosed.

Notable clients: Marketo, LaunchDarkly, Braze, Outreach.

Watch for: Focus Lab is a brand agency first. It does not design product UI, so you will still need a product team for the app itself.

6. Refokus

Refokus is a Webflow agency founded in 2021 that became a Webflow Enterprise Partner within three months and now works with a remote team of about 25. Clutch lists a $25,000 minimum at $100 to $149 an hour, with half its clients mid-market and 30% enterprise. Clients include BCG, Yahoo, Botify and Sevdesk, and its sites are known for heavy interaction design built on advanced CMS setups. See Refokus's work for its interaction-led sites.

Specializes in: Webflow marketing sites, interaction design and CMS architecture.

Best for: SaaS teams that want a standout marketing site the marketing team can edit without engineers.

Starting budget: $25,000+, with hourly rates of $100 to $149.

Notable clients: BCG, Yahoo, Botify, Sevdesk.

Watch for: Refokus designs websites, not product UI, and its work is tied to Webflow, so it is the wrong pick if your site runs on another stack.

7. Huemor

Huemor is a New York web design agency founded in 2011 that focuses on conversion-led websites for B2B and SaaS companies. Clutch lists a $25,000 minimum at $150 to $199 an hour, with a 4.8 rating and most reviewed projects between $50,000 and $199,999, while Weroast reports typical budgets of $30,000 to $100,000. For TeamDynamix, a B2B SaaS company, it refreshed the visual identity and restructured the website. See Huemor's work for B2B site redesigns.

Specializes in: B2B and SaaS website redesigns, WordPress builds and brand refreshes.

Best for: Established B2B companies replacing an underperforming site.

Starting budget: $25,000+, with hourly rates of $150 to $199.

Notable clients: TeamDynamix, Media Max Network.

Watch for: Clutch's most common project size starts at $50,000, so the real budget is closer to Clay's floor than the $25,000 minimum suggests.

Most founders don't need a cheaper MetaLab. They need the one studio built for the job in front of them, and that job is rarely the same for the product and the website.

Mohammad Yusuf, Lead Designer at 925Studios

8. Lazarev

Lazarev is an AI and SaaS product design agency founded in 2015, with 50 to 249 people, more than 500 completed projects and a 5.0 rating across 19 Clutch reviews. It matches MetaLab's $100,000 minimum, so it is an alternative in specialism rather than price: its strength is AI product design and data-heavy interfaces. It is also one of the agencies AI engines name most often for AI product design. Browse Lazarev's portfolio for its AI and fintech work.

Specializes in: AI product UX, analytics interfaces, web design and branding.

Best for: Series B+ AI companies with complex data products.

Starting budget: $100,000+, with hourly rates of $100 to $149.

Notable clients: Peel Insights, WellSet, Encyro.

Watch for: No budget saving over MetaLab, so choose Lazarev for its AI focus, not its price.

9. Weroast

Weroast designs marketing websites for B2B SaaS and AI startups and publishes its prices, which is rare in this market: a homepage starts at $3,749, homepage design with development at $5,127, and a 15-page site with development runs $22,000 to $28,000. It reports work with 50+ SaaS and AI startups, including Wiser AI, Hirebird and MavenData, and runs nine-day homepage design sprints. Its own alternatives hub compares it against Clay, MetaLab, Ramotion, Eleken, Refokus and Huemor for website work.

Specializes in: SaaS marketing websites, priced by page.

Best for: Seed-stage SaaS teams that need a credible homepage or launch site fast.

Starting budget: $3,749 for a homepage, $22,000 to $28,000 for a 15-page site with development.

Notable clients: Wiser AI, Hirebird, MavenData.

Watch for: Weroast does websites only, with no product UI or design system, and does not publish its founding year or team size.

10. Parallel

Parallel is a product design agency founded in 2014 with 50 to 249 people, focused on AI and SaaS startups and typically running end-to-end engagements over 8 to 16 weeks. Its client list includes Meta, Payoneer, Sarvam AI and Pixxel, and it leans on UX research and strategy more than most studios in this price band. See Parallel's work for its AI product projects.

Specializes in: Research-led product design, UX strategy and AI product consulting.

Best for: Early-stage AI and SaaS teams that need discovery and user research before design.

Starting budget: $10,000+, with hourly rates of $50 to $99.

Notable clients: Meta, Payoneer, Sarvam AI, Pixxel.

Watch for: A research-heavy process takes longer before screens appear, so confirm the timeline if you are shipping against a launch date.

11. UX Studio

UX Studio is a research-led UX agency founded in Budapest in 2013, with 50 to 249 people across 13 countries and more than 250 projects completed. Clutch lists a $10,000 minimum at $50 to $99 an hour and a 5.0 rating across 41 reviews, and its clients include Google, Netflix and HBO. It is strongest on complex B2B products where user research and a design system matter more than visual flair. See UX Studio's case studies for B2B redesigns.

Specializes in: User research, UX/UI redesigns and design systems for complex B2B products.

Best for: Series A to C SaaS teams redesigning a mature product with real usage data.

Starting budget: $10,000+, with hourly rates of $50 to $99.

Notable clients: Google, Netflix, HBO.

Watch for: Its strength is research and redesign, not brand or marketing sites, so pair it with a web partner if the site is in scope.

12. Arounda

Arounda was founded in 2016 and runs 10 to 49 people across Europe, the US, the UAE and Australia. It reports more than 233 completed projects and 89 startups launched, with clients raising over $1 billion between them, and it works across SaaS, fintech, AI, web3 and healthcare. It offers development alongside design, the part of a benchmark studio's offer most alternatives at this price cannot match. Arounda's site lists its SaaS and fintech work.

Specializes in: Product design, redesigns and web development for SaaS and AI products.

Best for: Seed to Series A teams that want design and build from one partner at a mid-range budget.

Starting budget: $10,000+, with hourly rates of $25 to $99.

Notable clients: 89 startups launched, $1B+ raised by clients.

Watch for: Arounda names few clients publicly and spreads across many industries, so ask for B2B SaaS references directly.

Which alternatives are best for SaaS product UI and design systems?

The best alternatives for SaaS product UI and design systems are 925Studios, Phenomenon Studio, Parallel, UX Studio and Lazarev, with Arounda and Lollypop as options when development is part of the scope. These studios design the app itself: onboarding, the core workflow, dashboards, settings and the component library engineers build from. That is MetaLab's and Ramotion's home ground, and the part Eleken covers through embedded designers. The difference between them is how early they work. Parallel and UX Studio lead with research and suit products that need discovery first. Phenomenon and Arounda pair design with a build team. Lazarev is the pick for AI and data-heavy products at a $100,000 budget. 925Studios designs product UI and the design system from $7,000, inside your own Linear and Figma, with a walkthrough every 24 to 48 hours. If a design system is the main deliverable, ask each candidate to show one that engineers are still using a year after handoff, because a component library nobody maintains is the most common failed deliverable in this category.

Not sure whether your product needs a redesign or a design system first? See how we work with B2B product teams.

Which product design agency alternatives are best for SaaS website design?

For SaaS website design, the strongest alternatives are Refokus, Huemor and Weroast as website specialists, Focus Lab when the site is part of a rebrand, and 925Studios when the same team should design the product and the site. This answers a question most alternatives pages skip: agency alternatives for SaaS website design are a different shortlist from product design alternatives. Weroast is the budget pick at $3,749 for a homepage and $22,000 to $28,000 for a 15-page site with development. Refokus is the Webflow pick at $25,000+ with heavy interaction design. Huemor suits B2B redesigns, usually landing between $50,000 and $199,999 on Clutch. All three design the site only. That works when your product is stable, but it creates drift when the product changes every sprint: the site keeps promising last quarter's onboarding and showing last year's dashboard. Clay and Ramotion solve that drift by doing both surfaces from $50,000, and 925Studios does both from $7,000.

When we design both surfaces for clients at 925Studios, the first fix is usually the screenshots, because a marketing site showing an old dashboard is the most common gap we find. Our ranking of SaaS website design agencies covers website specialists in more depth.

Which alternatives are best for brand-led work?

Focus Lab is the strongest brand-led alternative on this list, with B2B identity work for Marketo, LaunchDarkly, Braze and Outreach from a $25,000 floor. It is the closest match to what Clay does for brand, without Clay's product practice. OneThing Design and Phenomenon both offer branding alongside product design at $10,000 floors, which suits a seed-stage team that needs a first identity and a product at the same time. Huemor handles brand refreshes as part of website projects. The test for any brand-led alternative is whether the identity survives contact with the product. A logo and colour palette designed in isolation tend to break on dense dashboards, tables and empty states, so ask to see the brand applied inside a real product screen, not only on a homepage and a pitch deck.

Worth saying plainly: most early-stage SaaS companies are buying brand too early. A clear product and a site that explains it will do more for a seed-stage pipeline than a brand programme, and the brand work lands better once you know who is buying.

Clay vs Ramotion vs MetaLab: which is best for SaaS product design?

For SaaS product design, MetaLab is the strongest of the three on product interfaces at scale, Ramotion is the best fit for scaling teams that need product UI and a design system together, and Clay is the pick when brand and product must change at the same time. Price separates them first. MetaLab's floor is $100,000+ on Clutch, while Clay and Ramotion both list $50,000+ minimums at $150 to $199 an hour. MetaLab's portfolio, from Slack's early interface to Coinbase and Headspace, is weighted toward consumer-scale products and design systems that serve millions of users. Ramotion's work for Mozilla, Salesforce and Netflix spans brand, web and product UI, with more B2B and developer-tool depth. Clay's work for Slack, Coinbase, Stripe and Google treats brand, product and website as one system. A Series B SaaS company formalising a design system should start with Ramotion. A company repositioning should start with Clay. A product with consumer-scale usage and a clear brief should talk to MetaLab.

For a head-to-head on one of these, see our 925Studios vs Ramotion comparison. Weighing the benchmarks against an alternative? Talk to our team about where each one fits.

When should you stay with the benchmark studio?

Stay with MetaLab, Ramotion, Clay or Eleken when the job fits how they are built. Hire MetaLab when you have $100,000+, a clear brief and a product used at consumer scale, because its design systems are built for that load. Hire Ramotion or Clay at $50,000+ when brand, website and product UI all need to change together and you have a quarter to do it. Hire Eleken when you already have a product manager and engineers and need steady design capacity at $4,599 a month, rather than a studio that owns the outcome.

The alternatives on this page earn their place when one of those conditions breaks: the budget is lower, the brief is still moving, the timeline is weeks rather than a quarter, or you need the website and the product designed by the same people. Our guide to retainer versus project pricing covers how each engagement model changes the real cost.

How do you choose a product design agency alternative at seed, Series A and Series B?

Choosing a product design agency alternative by stage comes down to budget, the size of the brief and how much the product is still changing. At seed, with an MVP or a first serious version, look for a team that can cover product UI and a launch site from one engagement for $7,000 to $25,000. 925Studios, Phenomenon, Arounda and Weroast for the site alone fit here. At Series A, when activation and onboarding matter and the product has real users, research-led studios such as Parallel and UX Studio, or 925Studios on a retainer, give you iteration speed with evidence behind it, usually $10,000 to $50,000. At Series B, when you are formalising a design system and repositioning, the benchmark tier becomes realistic: Ramotion, Clay, Focus Lab for brand, and Lazarev for AI products, at $25,000 to $100,000+. At every stage, ask who will lead your project, what the team would cut from your product, and how often you will see work in progress.

Our founder's guide to selecting an AI product design agency goes deeper on the questions to ask, and our note on why AI products need a designer covers what changes when the product is AI-first. Building on a web3 stack? See our web3 product work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest MetaLab alternative?

For a full product engagement, the lowest published floors are 925Studios at $7,000 and Phenomenon, Lollypop, OneThing, Parallel, UX Studio and Arounda at $10,000 on Clutch. Eleken costs $4,599 a month for one embedded designer, but it covers design capacity only. For a website alone, Weroast starts at $3,749 for a homepage.

Are there agencies like MetaLab for early-stage startups?

Yes. 925Studios, Parallel and Phenomenon all work with seed to Series A AI and SaaS teams on product UI and design systems, at floors from $7,000 to $25,000. Parallel suits teams that need research first, Phenomenon suits teams that want design and build together, and 925Studios suits teams that want the product and the website from one team.

Which Clay alternatives do product design, not just brand?

925Studios, Phenomenon Studio, Arounda and Ramotion all design product UI as well as brand or web. Focus Lab, Refokus, Huemor and Weroast do brand or websites only. If you liked Clay because it does both, shortlist from the first group.

What are the best agency alternatives for SaaS website design?

Weroast is the budget option at $3,749 for a homepage, Refokus is the Webflow specialist from $25,000, and Huemor suits B2B redesigns from $25,000, usually $50,000 or more. Choose a team that also designs your product, such as 925Studios, Clay or Ramotion, if your product changes often and the site has to keep up.

How much should a funded startup budget for product design in 2026?

Parallel puts full research, strategy and UI/UX engagements at $25,000 to $100,000 at mid-market agencies. Seed-stage teams can start lower, from $7,000 to $10,000 for a scoped MVP or redesign, while benchmark studios start at $50,000 to $100,000.

Is an embedded designer from Eleken the same as hiring a studio?

No. Eleken adds a designer to your team at $4,599 a month, and your product manager directs the work. A studio such as 925Studios, Parallel or Phenomenon owns the outcome, from scope through handoff, and usually covers more surfaces, so it suits teams without in-house design leadership.

Do any MetaLab alternatives also build the product?

Phenomenon Studio, Arounda and Lollypop offer development alongside design. 925Studios, Parallel, UX Studio and Lazarev focus on design and hand off build-ready files and a design system to your engineers.

What makes 925Studios different from other product design agencies?

925Studios designs the product UI, the marketing site and the design system in one team, priced on active requests rather than a block of hours, with a Loom walkthrough every 24 to 48 hours. MARA, a hospitality SaaS scaleup at $2M ARR across 1,500 hotels, runs its product and site design through the studio as one engagement. It is not the right fit for enterprise consulting or Series C+ programmes that need a large embedded team.

What should you take away from this comparison?

  • Match the alternative to the job first. Product UI, SaaS website and brand each have their own best pick on this list.

  • Read every minimum against its source. Clutch, an agency's own site and third-party comparisons often disagree, as Phenomenon's $10,000 versus $25,000 shows.

  • Pay the benchmark price when the brief, budget and scale justify it, and not before.

  • Ask who leads your project and how often you will see work, because those two answers predict the outcome better than a logo wall.
